My Hero's Journey Reflections (6/14/25)

However Long and Hard the Road

  • What does the journey's difficulty teach me?
The Hero's Journey reminds me that the path is never easy. Every challenge, no matter how tough, is an opportunity for growth. The road tests not only my skills but also my courage and commitment. Crossing into the unknown is scary, but it's where transformation happens. Like the hero, I must embrace discomfort to evolve.

Looking Back and Moving Forward
  • How can reflection help me progress?
Looking back helps me see how far I've come and what lessons I've learned. It's tempting to resist change or cling to the past, but moving forward requires integrating those lessons. The "road back" isn't just a return; it's a new beginning with fresh purpose.

Mentors and Allies
  • Who are my mentors, and how do they help?
Mentors provide guidance, wisdom, and tools. Sometimes they appear as people. other times as books, experiences, or inner voices. They help me navigate challenges and remind me of my potential. I've been fortunate to have mentors who push me beyond my limits. First, my grandma gave me her strength, and my uncle gave me his heart. The love they poured into my life, in their unique ways, continues to guide me every single day.
My grandma was my biggest cheerleader. No matter what I was doing: soccer, basketball, cheerleading, or dance competitions, I could count on her being there. I recall one particular soccer game. I glanced over at the sideline, and there she was, yelling my name with so much pride in her eyes. Her voice always stood out in the crowd, not because it was the loudest, but because it was filled with love. That's something she did for every event, no matter how big or small. She showed up. And when she cheered, she cheered proudly. From her, I learned the importance of being present in the lives of those you love, but when you're there, show up with your whole heart. Then there's my uncle. Sadly, I didn't get much time with him. He passed away when I was just a baby, but even though I didn't grow up with him physically present, I feel his influence through the stories my family tells. Every story shares one common thread: his heart. He always went out of his way to help others. It didn't matter what someone was going through or where they came from, he showed up, without judgment, and with genuine kindness. His love was soft, sweet, and sincere. Because of him, I strive to treat others the same way, with compassion, kindness, and an open heart. I want people to feel seen, safe, and cared for, just like my uncle made others feel.
Together, my grandma and uncle taught me how to live with strength and love. I carry their legacy with me, and I hope to make them proud in everything I do.
